EUROPARC Italy - Federparchi: Workshop on the Charter
Towards the implementation of the Part II of the Charter
Posted: 23rd July 2009

From 14-15 of May 2009, the Adamello Brenta Nature Park organised a national workshop on the European Charter in collaboration with EUROPARC Italy-Federparchi. Besides evaluating the ongoing Charter activities in the Italian Charter Areas, the main focus of the meeting was on the first steps towards the implementation of the Part II of the Charter.
The discussion helped to clear some basic questions about the implementation of the Part II for the protected areas and the tourism businesses. It was clarified that the certification in the framework of the Charter is not an eco-label but more a committment of the tourism businesses to improve its work in the field of environmental management and mainly to strengthen its links with the protected area. For the protected area on the other side the certification is a good way to amplify and deepen the collaboration with its business partners in the region.
A working group was set up with the directors from all Charter Areas as well as representatives from EUROPARC Italy-Federparchi in order to develop a national methodology for the implementation of Charter Part II in Italy.
The initiative "Qualitá Parco" from the Adamello Brenta Nature Park was presented as a good model example. Within this activity, 35 accommodation have fulfilled a series of criteria and are now allowed to use the park's logo for promotion.
