An action plan for Müritz National Park Authority

Subject:Action plan
Country:Germany
Language:en

To promote the further development of the national park region, the Müritz National Park Authority (DE) has drawn up an action plan for sustainable tourism together with the regional tourism stakeholders for the next 5 years.

The focus of the plan is on tourism infrastructure and activities to promote conservation in the area. The main objectives will be improving trails, strengthening the National Park Partner Network and the bus system. Furthermore a quality upgrade of tours offered in the national park by the administration and tourism providers is planned. Cycling tourism and water tourism were added to the document with the aim to further improve the bicycle network and to create more attractive canoe routes.

The Action Plan for the Müritz National Park is a prerequisite to apply for the certificate of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, which is awarded by the EUROPARC Federation. Next spring, the EUROPARC Federation will assess the Action Plan and a site inspection of Müritz National Park will be carried out. Under the EU program "Parks & Benefits" seven protected areas from the Baltic Sea area are jointly striving to achieve this award for sustainable tourism development.
